Suveg Cellars is exited to release its first Tannat! Swing by to try our first vintage of this classic varietal, bottled under the name "Anger Management" on Saturday, November 11th.
Many of you are probably asking "What's Tannat?" Though not as common as Cabernet Sauvignon or Pinot Noir, Tannat is a grape of French origin that hails from the southwesterly Basque region of the country. After it was wiped out by Phylloxera in the later half of the 19th century, the grape found a home in the new world. Tannat is now the national grape of Uruguay and has become globally recognized for its high quality cultivation and production in the United States, especially in regions like Paso Robles.
What does out Tannat taste like? Think Table Dancer meets Size Matters. Aged 34 months in barrel, the wine is dark inky purple, sporting blackberry jam, espresso, black licorice, smoke, and spice notes. Structured tannin and vibrant acidity give this wine lots of aging potential. The wine needed to be filtered multiple times to remove excess lees (grape material), trying the patience of Winemaker Craig Suveg and earning the name "Anger Management."
