Suveg Cellars is exited to release its first Aglianico! Swing by to try our first vintage of this classic varietal, bottled under the name "Persona Non Grata" on Saturday, January 13th.
Many of you are probably asking "What's Aglianico?" Though not as common as Cabernet Sauvignon or Pinot Noir, Aglianico is a grape of Italian origin that hails from the southern central region of the country. Aglianico is one of Craig's favorite varietals, sporting classic old world qualities of smoke, underbrush, and petrol. Famed southern Italian regions like Campania and Basilicata have become inspirations for the rendition of Aglianico produced by Suveg Cellars.
What does our Aglianico taste like? Think Primitivo meets Petit Verdot. Deeply extracted, our first vintage of this charismatic vinifera offers notes of fig, prune and ripe bing cherry accented by subtle notes of Madagascar vanilla bean, baking spices and hints of gaminess. Earthy, gamey and well-structured with very formidable tannins, the wine is balanced by good acidity and complemented by stony minerality promising long aging potential.
The name Persona Non Grata is dedicated to all the local haunts that have banned our Winemaker and Winery Director for voicing their opinions, proving that speaking candidly and truthfully can make you Persona Non Grata with those not ready to face the music.
